Today I want to share with you a resource that is very useful: Wall Street News Network. One thing that for which I find this site to be very useful, is their monthly published list of stocks going ex dividend that month. For example, here’s a link to the October list.
Before you rush out and buy a bunch of stocks right before the ex date in hopes of making your money go further, I have to warn you to be careful. You need to know your terms. A stock’s ex dividend date is a date by which you would no longer be entitled to the dividend payout. For example, if the ex dividend date is October 27, if you buy the stock on October 27, you will not be entitle to that period’s distribution. Companies will also publish what is known as a record date, which is the date by which you must be recorded as a shareholder in order to be entitle to a distribution.
You should keep these definitions, as well as many others and several other risk factors, when making dividend investment decisions. But I just wanted to share a useful resource with you.
